Yesterday afternoon we went to Cultus Lake where we played mini-golf at Giggle Ridge.  The weather was beautiful and we had a lot of fun!  On the way back to the school we stopped for hot fudge Sundaes at McDonalds.

KOKUSAI:

Yesterday the group visited the Hampton House Retirement Home and entertained the residents with an origami making demonstration and some music.  I didn't get to go on this trip, but Kate Goos, who is our summer camp assistant went along and reported back to me that the students did a great job.  I can hardly wait to hear there musical on Friday evening at our farewell party and graduation!

CHILLIWACKIES NEWS

Our second summer camp started today.  It was a small group because most of the students are arriving tomorrow.  But, Mingyue, Ellen and Jane have arrived!  They had ESL class this morning and are right now at the Cultus Lake Waterslides with their teacher Mr. Barkman and his wife and children!
This summer Highroad Summer Camp is hosting two different groups of students.  Originally camp was to run from July 14 to July 27 and then from July 28 to August 10.  In order to accomodate students from two different groups we had to change the dates and as it happens they are overlapping a little.  So next week there will be two groups studying on campus.  I will be posting news from each group on this blog, I will head them as Kokusai and Chilliwackies.  Keep your eyes peeled for news!

KOKUSAI NEWS

Here's a photo of our bus driver, Cindy Turnbull.  During the school year she drives for School District 33.  We are very pleased that she could be the driver for the Kokusai Joho High School group.

KOKUSAI NEWS

Here are a few photos from our trip to the KalTire Retread Factory.  Thank you to Mike and his great staff for giving us a tour.

Gearing up with safety glasses and vests!

Now we are on our way to Birchwood Dairy.
This is Sharon, our guide.  After we had a tour of the farm, we got to choose from 32 different ice cream flavours - what a hard decision!

Yesterday we had a lesson on grocery shopping and then went to Safeway where each group of four students shopped from a grocery list and purchased the items themselves.  If students needed help the buddies were available to give direction and assistance.  It was great fun!  After that we came back to the school, prepared the food we had purchased and had lunch together.

In the afternoon, we had a short ESL lesson and then played soccer.

Wednesday 24 July 2013

The students from Kokusai Joho High School arrived safe and sound; and I must say that for having such a long trip and an extra long wait in the airport in San Francisco they were in very good spirits!

Class started this morning and I was able to take a photo of the group out on the playground.  This afternoon we are going to the KalTire Retread Plant and to Birchwood Dairy.  It's a beautiful sunny day, just perfect for this outing.

Tuesday 23 July 2013

The staff at Highroad Academy's Summer Camp would like to welcome students from Shiga Kokusai Joho High School!  We've already had one little hiccup!! The connecting flight from San Francisco to Vancouver was delayed.  The students are expected to arrive at Highroad at a quarter past midnight instead of 7 pm.  Thank you to our host families for being so accomodating....you're the best!

Watch this blog for photos and information from our guests!
